Accessibility Statement

We want everyone to be able to discover what people recommend, recommend what they love and start a Board — including people who use a keyboard, screen reader, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology.

Our target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We have not had an independent audit, so we do not claim full conformance; this statement describes what we have done and what we know.

What we do

  • Pages are server-rendered with semantic HTML: one main heading per page, a logical heading order, landmarks and labelled navigation.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator. The sign-in dialog keeps focus inside while open, closes with Escape and returns focus to where you were.
  • Form fields have labels, and errors are announced to assistive technology. Ranking updates after you recommend are announced politely.
  • Text and interface colors meet WCAG AA contrast in light and dark mode. Icon-only controls have text alternatives and decorative icons are hidden from screen readers.
  • Animations are subtle and are turned off when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • The layout adapts to small screens and to 200% zoom without losing content or functionality, and controls are sized for touch.

How we test

  • Automated checks with axe-core on key pages (homepage, search, Boards, starting a Board, category and place pages, and these policy pages).
  • Manual keyboard-only testing, 200% zoom and reduced-motion testing, and contrast measurement.
  • We re-test when we change key flows.

Known limitations

  • Emoji are used as decorative markers next to some headings and badges; they are hidden from screen readers, and the meaning is always in text.
  • Business logos and favicons shown next to listings come from third-party websites and may not have descriptive text; the listing name is always provided as text.
  • Content such as Board titles and listing names is submitted by the community and may not always be written in plain language.
  • We have not yet tested with every combination of screen reader and browser. If something does not work for you, please tell us.

Report a problem

If you find an accessibility barrier on TheTopBoard, or need information in a different format, email support@thetopboard.com with the page address and a short description. We aim to reply within five business days and will prioritize fixes that block access.
